Birds:
Do not gut or clean any Bird you wish to have mounted.
Wipe excess blood and fluid from the plumage and freeze in a plastic bag as soon as possible.
**Do not wrap a Bird in newspaper, as it wicks moisture from the skin. This causes the specimen to freezer burn in short order, making a quality mount impossible in most cases.
Do not wrap Birds in Nylon Stockings as blood seeps into the material, dries, and can pull plumage out of the specimen.
Custom Habitat bases consisting of water, snow, ice, mud, etc. are available for your mount at an additional cost.
Small Game:
Do not gut specimen. Proper protocol for small game is to place in a plastic bag and freeze as soon as possible.
Additional fee for all an open mouth small game animal mounts starting at $100.
Extreme poses and habitat bases are available at an additional charge (charges based on size and customization.)
Fish:
Most Fish mounts are replicated in fiberglass. The specimen can be released or eaten and you can still have a mount for the wall which will look great for years to come. In order for Fins to Feather’s to create your custom fish mount in the likeness of your catch you must record the accurate length and girth measurements. Photo’s of the fish, while alive and not out of the water for too long will help us to recreate the color scheme of your particular catch. Please not once a fish has been out of the water many will start to lose their coloring.
Always be very wary of Giant Taxidermy Companies that advertise a low cost mount, as they make up that low cost by charging considerably for handling, crating and shipping.
At Fins to Feather’s Taxidermy we only charge actual crating (time/materials) as well as actual shipping charges when a mount needs to be shipped. There are no hidden costs or fees. We are a family business and honesty is at the core of everything we do.
